Kahindo Mateene is the founder and designer of KAHINDO, a modern, ethical fashion brand that blends bold contemporary style with her Congolese heritage. Born in Uganda and raised across multiple African countries, Kahindo’s global upbringing and deep connection to her roots shape every collection she creates.
Her brand is personal — named after herself — and carries her mission to empower women in Africa through sustainable, fair-trade job creation. By producing her collections on the continent, Kahindo celebrates African artistry while also fostering economic independence for the women who bring her vision to life.
Today, KAHINDO is carried by leading retailers including Anthropologie, Bloomingdale’s, Shopbop, Nordstrom, and Rent the Runway, and is recognized for its vibrant prints, sophisticated silhouettes, and commitment to ethical production.
Kahindo’s work has been featured in WWD, Vogue, The New York Times, Elle, Essence, and Marie Claire. She is a Tory Burch Fellow, a graduate of The Workshop at Macy’s, and continues to use fashion as a tool for storytelling, empowerment, and cultural education.
